This winter, Michael turned 60. Just to ensure that he did not become despondent over it, I arranged a knock-out birthday party for him.
Nick and Julia came from New Orleans and Alix and Adam graciously hosted the party at their new home. Tori helped out wherever she could be of use and our dear friends joined us in the festivities.
I arranged for a concert by the Paragon Brass Ensemble, a delightful quintet including trumpet, French horn, trombone, and baritone, at the party. Everyone knew about the concert except Michael, who did a slapstick quality double take when our friend Jeff Grass (one of the trumpets) walked through the door in his tuxedo, carrying his instrument case.
Needless to say, that party exceeded all of our expectations. Besides the friends, family and music, we had a special contribution from Nick. He has been making glass art at Tulane for the past two years and he brought a beautiful wall sculpture which Alix and Adam let him install on the wall of their foyer for the evening. Bravo Nick on your beautiful artwork.
We are now looking forward to our spring project - building a craft and hobby room in our garage. I hope it goes more smoothly than our terrace project last spring, although that ultimately turned out beautifully.

Ordinarily, I include a family photo here, but I decided the time had come to introduce one of our cats, Jack. (The other one is Trixie; she's shy and I haven't got a photo of them together.) Both cats are 14 years old. Jack takes his cattitude very seriously, as you can see in his picture, although he is a love when he lowers himself to our (human) level.
